Emily's New Life - Chapter Fifty

After a week of coming back from the dead, I finally have a little bit of strength back in my legs with Dimitri's help. I couldn't understand why I was so weak, but Dimitri explained that my life force had been drained, and it would take time for my light force to get strong again. Even though Nolan had successfully put the light back into my body and attaching it to my soul that had not left my body yet, it was as if I was a baby taking baby steps all over again. The simple things that I took for granted were now a challenge for me to do. Today was the day that Dimitri would agree to me getting out of bed. I manage to get to my feet with Dimitri wrapped around me like a vine. Dimitri has been so helpful with caring for me that he won't let me do anything for myself.

"I think I can manage on my own. I feel stronger than I did a week ago," I tell Dimitri as he holds on to me with a death grip. "I'm not taking any chances of you falling," Dimitri says as he takes a step with me.

The door opens, and I see Max, our personal doctor, walk in. "Lisa didn't tell me you were alive," I say with a high-pitched voice. "Yes, the attack happened when me and Lisa were not on the premises. We were on a supply run for the clinic. When we got close, they had the place sealed off. Later we heard the horrible news of what happened to everyone there. We thought you were dead, along with Chris and Dimitri. When no one could find your bodies, they assumed they took you guys with them, and you were killed later. So we went with the rest that was alive to safety. Enough of the sad talk; I see you are making a lot of progress," Max says.

Dimitri sets me on my feet and backs up so I can talk face-to-face with Max. "That's good that you can now stand on your own. I will be working with you to strengthen your body and your inner fairy," Max says with a smile.

I will be moving in to take care of you during your pregnancy to make sure everything goes as plan," Max explains. "You're going to move in the whole time?" I ask. "Yes, that way, I can be here if anything happens. Lisa and I will monitor your pregnancy. That way, you don't have to go to any hospitals. We will make a sterile room here for you and the baby when it comes time to deliver," Max explains. "I'll be having the baby here?" I ask, almost in horror. What if something bad happens?" I ask. "Don't worry, I'm trained in those matters. We will have all the equipment needed for any problems, and the staff will be prepared for any complications you might have. You are in good hands," Max tells me with confidence, which settles me a little.

Dimitri retreats to take a nice hot bath while Max works with me on some things. I know he must be enjoying it because he hasn't been two feet away from me since I came too.

I get dressed and get ready to work with Max. He's going to see how much I can do since I returned from the dead. The first thing Max does is hover in front of me.

"Now, you try and keep off the floor as long as you can," Max instructs. I have not even tried to fly since my condition had gotten so bad. Now I was going to find out how well or how sick I was. I flutter my wings and feel the floor fall below my feet.

"Very good," Max says. I keep up my pace, and Max starts talking to me. "You're doing great. Now let's see if you can fly and talk at the same time," Max says with a laugh. "Oh, I thought you were going to suggest me chewing gum while trying to fly," I say with a grin. "Naw, not ready to go that serious," Max says with a grin to match mine. After we finish our session, which must have lasted for hours, I find myself very hungry.

I change into my pj's and find the perfect opportunity to sneak downstairs to surprise Dimitri with some of my home cooking. My stomach feels way too empty, and I know I'm going against all their wishes to rest, but I can't help it. I want to cook, and no one is going to stop me.

I gather stuff out of the fridge and begin to whip it all together. Waffles sound nice. I pour the batter into a pan and head over to the oven.

I place them in the oven and wait. I'm hoping to get it finished before Dimitri finishes with his bath.

It doesn't take Dimitri long to find me in the kitchen, and just in time as I place the plates of waffles on the counter. I sit down before Dimitri has the chance to say anything. He smiles and sits down beside me. Taking a bite, Dimitri looks over and smiles and nods in approval.

"So, you like it?" I ask with a grin on my face. "Of course I do. I have missed your cooking. It's nice to actually eat it with you this time. I look forward to more, but you have to promise me that you will not overdo it. We have to protect our baby and you till you are well," Dimitri says after shoving another fork full of waffles into his mouth. "This is good for the baby. The baby seems to like waffles," I say with a laugh. Dimitri looks over at me with amusement as he shoves another mouthful of waffles into his mouth.

After getting the ok, I head to take a nice hot bath unsupervised. I run warm water and strip out of my clothes. I sink down into the tub full of warm water that seems to relax every muscle in my body. Sponge baths don't compare to a bath even though Dimitri was the one doing it.

When I'm finished, I sit in the living room, waiting on Dimitri to join me later. I choose the rocker that's in front of the fireplace in the living room. I sit and think of when I will rock a little one to sleep in the future.

Dimitri finds me in the living room, takes me by the hand, and leads me outside.

When we clear the steps, he pulls me into his arms, taking me by surprise. "I have wanted to do this all day. I have missed us so much," Dimitri says as he crushes his lips to mine.

We kiss more, and my hunger for Dimitri deepens. I think he feels it and pulls away just a little. I feel my disappointment as soon as his lips leave mine.

Dimitri turns me in his arms, and then I spin away from him.

Dimitri dips me low, and his warm lips are on mine again. I will never get tired of his kisses. He brings me back up on my feet.

Dimitri then lowers me to the ground, then follows me by sitting beside me. Sitting back, Dimitri looks up at the stars like we used to do. The insects provide soothing sounds as the stars dance above us. The moon provides the night with light, and the fireflies light the trees like Christmas. I sit back and scoot closer to Dimitri.

Dimitri wasted no time pointing out many stars and constellations while we sit enjoying each other's company.

The next day I'm up and ready before Dimitri even gets out of bed. He skips down the steps in his pj's that hang so sexy off his hips. My mouth goes dry as he stops right in front of me. "How's my girl and my baby?" he asks as he gently rubs my belly. Well, this gal is feeling good, but the baby, well, it's just a little blop right now," I giggle. "A blob," Dimitri asks in amusement. "Yep, it has no legs or arms. Just a little blob," I reply. "If you say so, but when we get an ultrasound, and it's got legs, it's officially a baby," Dimitri adds as he heads up the steps to get dressed.

When Dimitri returns, he is all dressed for the day. My belly rumbles a little, and before I know it.

He grabs me up, crushing his lips to mine. Oh, those lips, he must have been gifted for kissing alone.

He dips me back and deepens the kiss. Breaking my lips from his, "If you keep this up, I will have to demand you take me upstairs," I say with a gasp as he claims my lips again. He quickly sets me back on my feet, "my bad," he says with a grin.

I pull back and grab at my stomach. "Oh no, not again," I groan. "What again?" Dimitri says with concern.

"I'm going to throw up," I say as I take off running for the bathroom.

I make it but bearably before it all comes up.

Everything that I ate today is now in the toilet. After a few minutes, it finally stops. I thank goodness that Dimitri didn't join me in the bathroom while I was at my worst.

I stand up and get my bearings. I feel weak but manage it well. I walk over to the sink and brush my teeth as I hold onto the sink to keep myself steady. After I finish, I head back into the living room.

Dimitri has disappeared again. So I head back over to the rocking chair to settle my stomach.

I get hit with a sudden urge to sleep. I find myself so sleepy that I make my way over to the couch and lie down. I figure a nap won't hurt.

I hear Dimitri and the nurse in the room but far off. I pay them no mind as I slumber. "It's normal," I hear her say before I drift off again.

I stir a little but don't open my eyes. I hear Dimitri head up the steps, and I drift off again.

I feel the sofa shift from the weight of someone sitting down. I peek and see Dimitri in his pj's sitting at the end of the couch, looking at me. "Sleepyhead," he says with a smirk. "Yes indeed," I say in between a yawn. "Where did you go?" I ask. "Chris came over, so I spared with him a bit. Let's get you to bed," he says. "Sounds good to me," I say as I sit up.

Dimitri carries me upstairs and helps me to bed. He walks over to the other side, sliding in behind me. He pulls me into his arms and nuzzles up to my back. I can feel his breath on my neck as he settles into a comfortable position. It's a wonderful feeling to have him with me. I slowly drift off to sleep.

Eye's Wide Open - Chapter Forty Nine

Sound asleep, Dimitri gets some much-needed sleep from being on the move for so long to get what was needed to save Emily's life that he didn't even realize that he had fallen asleep.

Slowly stirring from his sleep, he can feel Emily in his arms.

Dimitri's eyes spring to life when it dawns on him that Emily is no longer just lying in the position that she was when he fell asleep. Emily was now snuggled up to his side like she always did when they would sleep together every night. Dimitri could feel Emily breathing steady as his hand rested on her side.

Slowly moving Emily out of his arms, Dimitri slides out of bed and just stares at her, sleeping peacefully. "Is this a dream?" Dimitri thought as he rubbed his face. Dimitri moved closer to Emily to wake her like he had always done since they had moved back to his house. Dimitri paused when reality hit him. This was not a dream, but a reality of what he had done to her. Dimitri wanted to wake her up but didn't want to disturb her either. He stood and pondered the decision.

All of a sudden, Emily rolls over away from him, still asleep. Dimitri's stops breathing as he watches in amazement. "Emily, are you awake?" Dimitri says in a whisper as he sits on the side of the bed.

Emily never says a word as Dimitri finally gets up the nerve to reach over and roll her over to face him. Emily faces upward on her back but does not wake when Dimitri moves her. "Emily, please wake up, love," Dimitri whispers as he strokes her hair.

Choking back the tears, Dimitri leans down to Emily. "I know your in there. You moved love, come back to me. Please wake up," he whispers.

Dimitri waits and waits as Emily lays still and doesn't move a muscle. "Emily, come back to me," he tells her as his voice starts to tremble with disappointment.

Almost losing hope, Dimitri scoops Emily up from the bed and pulls her into his arms. Dimitri takes Emily to the end of the bed and sits down with her on his lap. Emily's head falls to Dimitri's shoulder as he sits there, rubbing her hand and back. "You need to come back to me," Dimitri says with demand in his voice.

"I'm so sorry for what I did to you. I will never forgive myself if you don't come back to me. Please, Emily, come back. We're going to have a baby, and you need to come back to me. I need you more now than ever," Dimitri says as he pulls her closer to him.

Emily shifts in Dimitri's arms, and her eyes flutter open. Dimitri gasps as he turns her in his arms. "Hey you," Dimitri whispers as he strokes Emily's face.

"Welcome back, don't do that to me ever again," he says in a stern voice. "Did I die?" I ask. "Only for a brief moment, I thought I lost you forever. My world ended, Emily. I can't live without you. I will never put you in harm's way again. I can't tell you how sorry I am for what I did. When Daniel called and said you had died, I lost it. I would have never forgiven myself," Dimitri says.

"You and this baby are my world," Dimitri says as he strokes my face. "What! What are you talking about? A baby! Am I pregnant?" I gasp at the sudden shock.

"Yes, love you are with child. My child and I will protect you and our son or daughter with my life," Dimitri whispers as he pulls me closer.

A baby, a baby with Dimitri, my one wish that I had a long time ago. A new pain opens for a brief moment when I remember the first child we lost, but a new joy fills me when I think of a little girl or boy that I thought was impossible to have was finally coming true. I lean over, taking Dimitri's face into my hands. "Never feel bad for what you did. I told you to do it. It was my choice. So, never blame yourself for what happened. I'm fine, and now we are going to start a new life together. I don't regret anything. I have you back, and that means the world to me, I tell him as tears form in my eyes.

Then a sudden fear hits me. "Dimitri, you were a Nightwalker when we.....What if the baby is a Night Walker too?" I ask with a daunting fear of the truth. "We don't know just yet what the baby is, but it's alive, and that's all the matters to me. I got you and the baby. It doesn't matter what it is. We will face the situation no matter what the outcome. We will make this work," Dimitri says as he tries to reassure me. But deep down inside, I'm scared to death.

Dimitri calls for the nurse as he keeps me held tight in his arms. I'm a bit surprised when I see Lisa walk into the room. I still remember getting checkups from Lisa for years. I find it surprising that she was not killed with everyone else when the Nightwalkers evaded our home. "Can you strip down to your under where so I can examine you and the baby?" Lisa asks. Dimitri sets me on the edge of the bed and helps me take off my nightclothes. Dimitri then helps me get to the top of the bed. I watch Lisa place a monitor on the table beside the bed and turns it on. "This will be a little cold," Lisa tells me before she places the probe on my belly. I watch as Lisa slowly starts moving it across my belly and stops as a strong heartbeat fills the room. The baby's heartbeat, my baby, and it's alive.

I glare over at the screen to see a small little dot. It doesn't even look like a baby yet, but it's got a heart, and it's strong. "So, what do you see?" I ask Lisa as she studies the screen. "It's too early to tell anything other than it's alive," Lisa says as she moves the wand more to get some measurements of the baby.

"So how far am I?" I ask pretty much knowing the answer to that one since me, and Dimitri only had the opportunity only a few times in a few weeks. "It looks like you are eight weeks, give or take a few days," Lisa says as she finishes the measurements.

We will put you on a good diet, and I'll give you something to help put some weight back on you. We will continue lots of fluids and plenty of supplements and vitamins. I'll keep a close eye on the baby's progress, and hopefully, as it develops more, we can determine what it is. A boy, girl, fairy, or nightwalker," Lisa says as she finishes up. My heart sinks as I think of raising a little nightwalker. I wasn't sure how I would manage it since I knew nothing about them other than they destroyed my family and lived on blood. What would I be able to offer a child like that? My mind raced at the odds of my situation.
