The Wizard - Chapter Forty Six

"We need to take her down to Dimitri's room so she will be ready for when they get here," Daniel explains. "I don't think they can do anything for her now that she has been dead for a few hours. Jen looks over at Emily's lifeless body and sighs. "I still can't believe she's gone." Daniel walks over to Emily and picks her up off the bed. "You never know what can happen. Let's just say in my family history, strange things have happened, and I have seen a lot of things.

In one swift motion, Daniel reaches down and picks Emily up off the bed. Jen watches as Daniel tries to hide his emotions as he stands up, facing her. Emily's arms fall, and her head dangles to the side. Daniel carries her gently, making sure he doesn't hit any part of her body on anything as he makes his way down to the main floor.

When Jen and Daniel enter the room, Jen clears the table off for Emily's body. Daniel places her on the table, and Jen positions her. She straightens her out and crosses her hands over her chest.

Daniel pulls a chair up and sets down while he waits on his brother. He knows it won't be much longer before he gets there. Dread fills Daniel as he prepares for his brother to fall apart. All he can do is hope he does not lose his mind from grief.

The door opens, and in comes Chris, Nolan, and Dimitri bringing up the end. Daniel can see the grief on their faces. The only one that appears to have no emotions is Nolan. Jen looks at Nolan with wide eyes. "It's ok, he's not a Nightwalker, he's part of my family. I will explain later," Daniel tells Jen. Jen moves out of the way so they can get to Emily. Jen watches Nolan closely still, a bit on edge as the memories of her stay with the Nightwalkers wash over her. Chris looks as though he's been crying, but he has no tears now, and Dimitri looks devastated.

Chris looks at Jen, who has been crying the whole time as the streaks of tears stain her cheeks. "Jen, are you ok?" he whispers. She looks up but seems so far away in her expression. Chris can tell it has taken a toll on her. Jen slowly nods her head, but she still looks lost.

Dimitri slowly makes his way to Emily's side. His body is stiff and rigid as he tries to control his emotions. The tears are already running down his cheeks as he walks over to the table. Everyone is holding their breath as they watch Dimitri's every move. When they thought Dimitri was going to pull Emily into his arms, Dimitri stops a few feet away from the table. Looking down at Emily's lifeless body, Dimitri stands there silently as the tears continue down his face.

Chris joins Dimitri, but by the time he reaches his side, Dimitri is broken. Dimitri's silence breaks, and he starts to scream Emily's name. Everyone freezes as they watch Dimitri fall apart. Dimitri goes to grab Emily, but Chris manages to stop him.

Suddenly Dimitri collapses to the ground screaming for Emily to come back to him. Tears run down Dimitri's face as Chris backs away, watching his best friend's soul break. Chris looks mortified and lost at the same time. Chris wants to help his best friend but is helpless in what to do. All Chris can do is stand beside him. No one else approaches but stands waiting for Dimitri to regain himself.

"Chris, take Dimitri and the others upstairs, I have work to do," Nolan's voice breaks through the commotion. Chris drops down beside Dimitri, placing his hands on his shoulders.

"Dimitri, we got to let him do what he came here to do. Come on," Chris says as he pulls Dimitri up from the floor.

"We were too late. Emily is gone," Dimitri cries out as Chris and Daniel support Dimitri shaking body.

"Don't give up yet," Chris says as they lead Dimitri toward the door. "Yes we are, we are too late. She's dead. He can't bring back the dead," Dimitri chokes out between the sobs.

Chris and Daniel get Dimitri upstairs into the living room. Dimitri walks over to the fireplace and just drops down to the floor as he sobs into his folded arms. Chris and Daniel join him so they can be there for him. They both sit in silence as they hope for the best.

Daniel wants to take the pain away from his brother, but he can't. He had never found a love like the love Dimitri and Emily had for each other. All Emily and Dimitri ever wanted were to be together and be happy, but every time they tried, it seemed like some force was ripping them apart. "Now, with everything they had been through, was it the end for both Emily and Dimitri?" Daniel thought as he looked over at his brother.

Chris tried to run all the scenarios through his head on what to do if Emily didn't make it, that Dimitri's soul would die without Emily by his side. Chris and Daniel both knew that there was a special bond that Dimitri and Emily shared that went back almost one hundred years ago when Nolan saved the princess.

Dimitri sobbed as he tried to hold onto the hope that Nolan could save Emily. Dimitri wasn't ready to face the fact that she was gone. Really gone. Dimitri wanted to hold Emily in his arms, to feel her body against his, to feel her heartbeat against his chest, but he knew if he had touched her that it would have confirmed his worst fears. All Dimitri could do was wait and try not to lose it.

After the door shuts, Nolan steps up beside Emily. Wand in hand, Nolan whips it through the air over Emily's body as he starts to chant his spell. A small light follows Nolan's wand as he proceeds to chant.

Nolan moves his want faster as the spell begins to create a small line of light.

A green light circles over Emily's body as Nolan continues to chant.

The light gets brighter as his chants fill the room.

A small explosion ignites above Emily's body. "Strange," Nolan says as he starts to repeat his spell.

Tiny colors of light rise from Emily's body, but there are no signs of life. Nolan keeps chanting.

Then a light, a small light comes to life. It starts over her body and keeps on growing in size. Nolan keeps chanting, and his hands begin to tremble. Sweat begins to run down Nolan's face as he concentrates on the ball of light that keeps growing.

It gets bigger................

And bigger....................

Are They To Late? - Chapter Forty Five

Emily had not moved in a long time. Something didn't look quite right to Jen as she watched her from the chair next to her bed.
Jen slowly gets up from her chair and walks over to Emily. Leaning down, Jen leaned down close to Emily that laid so still that it made her uneasy. She wanted to touch Emily but dared not, because she didn't want to disturb her. Just when Jen was ready to walk back to her chair, she notices that Emily looks like she's not breathing. Jen, in a panic, calls out Emily's name to find no response. Jen reaches over, placing her hands on Emily's shoulders to gently shake Emily as she calls out her name. "Emily! Wake up!" Jen says as she hears her own voice tremble. Emily doesn't respond at all. "Emily! Wake up!" Jen shouts as she shakes Emily harder.
Jen reaches up slowly with trembling hands to see if she can feel Emily's pulse. Sinking down on the bed beside Emily, Jen knows it's too late, that Emily has passed.
"I'm sorry, Emily, I wish we could have been faster," she says as she strokes Emily's hand that is still warm.
Slowly getting up from the bed, it all comes crashing down. With tears in her eyes, Jen screams for Daniel.
Jen lets out a cry as the tears continue down her cheeks.
Jen only becomes aware of the commotions coming from outside the room. She tries to get herself under control as the thoughts ran through her head. What help could they do for her now? They tried everything, and nothing would keep her alive.
The door bursts open and Daniel comes running into the room full of panic. "Jen! What's wrong?" Daniel shouts as he grabs ahold of Jen's shoulders as she cries loud sobs. "Jen!" Daniel shouts as he starts to shake her.
"She's gone," is all Jen could get out between the sobs. Daniel then knew what had happened. As Jen continued to cry, Daniel took a look in Emily's direction as his heart sank.
Daniel pulled his phone out and starred at it for a long while. How was he going to tell his big brother that Emily had lost the battle? That his true love was now gone, and he was going to be alone for the rest of his life. He knew his brother would mourn the rest of his days for Emily, and now he felt he was going to lose his brother too. Slowly he dialed his brother's number.
Daniel didn't say anything when Dimitri answered the phone. He was silent as Dimitri demanded what was going on.
"Dimitri........she's gone," he says. The line goes dead.

Emily's Condition - Chapter Forty Four

My body stops burning and jerking. I go still, and I'm in my own thoughts, trying to contain the pain that just ripped me apart.
I'm drawn to the warm hands that are on mine. It's Dimitri, he's begging me to come back to him. He sounds so worried and scared. "Emily, if you can hear me please, please don't leave me. You are my world, don't you leave me now," he says as he strokes my hand.
I open my eyes and shift my body toward him. He jumps up in a panic.
"Hey you," he says with a sad smile on his face. Oh, his lovely face. I must have scared him to death. "Welcome back, you scared the life out of us all," he says.
"I don't know what happened. What's wrong with me? Why do I feel so strange?" I ask. He leans over and strokes my hair. "I lost control and almost killed you. I do not know exactly what happened when I was feeding off you. I remember losing control, and then we got blown apart by force. When I woke up, you were laying across the room, unconscious. Your wings disappeared, and I was normal again," he says with a sadness in his voice.
"My wings are gone," I say with pure horror in my voice. Am I going to die?" I choke out.
"I'm going to go and find the answers. I think I know where to look and who to go see, but you have to be strong for me and don't die on me. You must rest, don't do anything that would cause you to stress or to lose strength doing. You are to lie in this bed and not move a muscle. Jen is here, and she's going to stay with you while me and Chris go find the answers we need to fix your condition," he explains.
He leans down and kisses me. Oh, his lips are soft and warm, it warms my soul.
I pull him to me and crush his lips harder on me.
"Don't go, don't leave me. I'm scared," I plead as he gets up. I grab at him and try to pull him back. "Emily, I have to go. This is the only way I will find a way to save your life. You are not well, and it could be only a matter of time before you could die. I got to do this. I did this to you, and I will find a way to make it right," he says with a sad smile. "Please hurry back. I will do what you say and do my best to not get any sicker. I love you," I say. "I love you too," he says and then leaves me.
Hours pass into days, and I have become really weak. Jen has been by my side to keep me comfortable and to make sure I don't move a muscle.
All of a sudden, I'm hit with a knot in my stomach that pulls tight, and I'm about ready to throw up everywhere. I leap off the bed and out the door leaving Jen confused and running after me.
I barely make it to the bathroom before all the contents of my stomach come up. I fall to my knees in front of the commode. I puke until I start to dry heave.
I finish, and a sheet of sweat gathers across my skin. I lean against the wall for support when Jen walks over to me. "Emily, are you ok?" she asks as she kneels in front of me. I look up and nod.
She pulls me up off the floor and holds me for support. My knees are weak, and my body hurts. "Let me help you to your room. You need to rest," she orders.
When we get to the room, I get dressed to try to feel normal. When I sit on the bed, a pain that shoots across my belly. "What's wrong?" Jen asks. I grab at my side and my stomach. "I'm not sure." Jen reaches for me and stops. "Do you think you could be pregnant?" she asks. "That's impossible, Dimitri is a Nightwalker, and I haven't been with anyone else in a long time," I reply.
"It's probably side effects to what is going on with you. Your body is in an uproar. It's hard to tell what will happen next; all you can do is relax till Dimitri gets back with some answers or a cure," she says.
"I hope they come soon, my body feels like it's being torn apart," I say as I try to readjust myself on the bed. "Rest, I'll be right here if you need anything," Jen tells me.
I lay down and drift off to sleep.
Someone comes in, and it stirs me from my sleep. I look up and see what almost looks like a younger Dimitri. It must be his brother that I was going to meet at some point.
"You must be Jen, and you must be Emily," he says as he looks in my direction. "Dimitri called and wanted me to be here to look after the both of you while they went to find Nolan. Dimitri has a plan and a brilliant one at that. I just hope they can find that wizard in time," he says.
"What do you mean by the plan?" I ask. "I'm sure you have heard the legends of how your people started—the gift of light. Well, the wizard that did that spell was a guy named Nolan. He is from our family. He married Annabell's daughter that had the curse too," he says. "Wait, wouldn't he be dead by now," Jen asks. "Well, he would have if his wife had not turned him. She was born also cursed. So not only is he like a Nightwalker, but he's a wizard too. Dimitri's plan is to find him so he can redo the spell he on Emily that he originally did for her ancestor," Daniel explains. Dimitri is hoping that Nolan can do the same thing as he did with the baby in hopes that it will give your light back," he explains.
They have brought a private doctor in, and they are now pumping me full of fluid. I can't keep anything down and no longer have the strength to run to the bathroom, so Jen has set up a bucket next to the bed. She brings me regular meals, but now I find them repulsive. I can't even bring myself to eat anything.
The days have been going by, and I don't know how much longer I can hang on. My body is so weak, and I'm exhausted even when I have not moved from this spot. I fear my end is coming soon. I'm not sure if I will even get to see Dimitri again to say goodbye.
I can no longer keep my eyes open, and all I do anymore is sleep.
"She's getting worse. I can't get her to eat or drink anything. When she does, it comes right back up. She's so pale with dark circles under eyes and cheeks. Please tell me you have some kind of news," Jen says in a whisper tone, trying not to worry me, no doubt.
"She doesn't look good. When is the last time she was awake, or the doctor checked on her?" Daniel asks. "He was in here earlier. She sleeps for the most part of the days, and the rest is throwing up. She's been asleep for a while now," Jen says.
"What are we going to do?" Jen asks. Can you call them and see if they are getting close? We need to give her some hope," she says. "I'll see if they are getting closer to being here. The last time I talked to Dimitri was yesterday, and they had found Nolan, and it sounded hopeful that they would be able to do the spell. They have to find the stuff that was in the dust that he used. I will call him and see if they are getting closer," he says as he pulls his phone out of his pocket.
"Hey, it's me, how close are you guys?" he asks. "Well, you better hurry because she's not doing well. She's deteriorating fast, I don't know how much time she's got left," he says. I then can hear Dimitri's voice on the other end in a panic. He's saying stuff in a fast tone, and I can't make out what he's saying.
"Ok, I will get that ready and will see you soon," he says as he slides his phone back into his pocket.
"They found what they need, they are on their way. They should all get here by tomorrow morning," he says. "Let's just hope she can hang on till then," Jen says.
Tomorrow... he will be here tomorrow. I must hang on till tomorrow. I keep repeating to myself. That was the last thing I remembered before I drifted off.
