The Queens Potion - Chapter Thirty-Six

"The wizard has finished the potion for you. You know you don't have to do this. I love you the way you are. I just don't want to lose you." William told Kristen. "It will be alright, no matter the outcome. I can't live like this. It cured the other two, and I'm pretty sure it will work the same for me." Kristen reassured him.

Down in the banquet hall, she meets with her son. She told him what she was planning to do and that it could either have a good or bad outcome. "I want you to be a good boy. I love you with all my heart. Keep to your studies and always remember that one day you will become king of this realm." Kristen told James.

James gave his mom a big hug. "I love you too, mommy. You will be fine. I know it in my heart." James told her but remained worried.

Kristen and William headed towards the wizard's cottage on the court grounds. "I want you to promise me that you will help James be a good ruler if something should happen to me. Keep him safe." Kristen asked William. "I promise you have nothing to worry about," William told her.

"Let us walk through the garden on our way there. I know how you love the gardens here." William told Kristen as he grabbed her hand and began to lead her along the path.

Kristen didn't know if this would be the last time that she would be with William or if this would be her last day. She was frightened of what was waiting for her.

Kristen entered the wizard's cottage. He was waiting for her. "I have to admit that this frightens me," Kristen told him. "Shall we begin?" he asked.

Kristen was then handed the red bottle of potion. "Drink it all and then prepare for the change. It will happen very fast," he told her.

Kristen only hesitated for a moment and then drank it as fast as she could. It had a terrible taste, and she almost couldn't keep it down.

Then Kristen was hit with the pain. She felt the potion start to work. But the pain was so horrible that she couldn't even think of what was happening. She felt like her blood was boiling, then her body shook with violent spasms, and she was on the edge of passing out. After some time, she felt a warm sensation come over her skin.

William and the wizard looked at Kristen when she finally stood still. They could see that she had a very pretty pink color to her skin. Her cheeks had turned pink, and her eyes had turned blue. This was the first time anyone had seen Kristen as a normal adult.

Kristen grabbed her head. "I do not feel good. My head is really hurting, and I need to lay down," she told them.

William got Kristen to her room, and she collapsed to the floor. In a weak voice, Kristen told William to put her on the bed. "I do not feel well at all. Something is wrong," she told him.

Kristen lay on the bed and held her pounding head. She could feel the warmth of her skin. "Do you want me to go get the physician?" William asked her, both concerned and frightened. "No, I just need to rest for a bit," she replied.

The next day when she thought everything was better, she sat up and got ready to get out of bed. She fell to the floor and began to hurt all over her body. She cried out to William. "Get the physician!" she told him in a panicked voice.

While she waited for the physician, she managed to get back on the bed. She rolled around in pain. Her head was hot to the touch, and she could feel her heartbeat pounding in her head.

William arrived with the physician. She looked at Kristen, almost lifeless, on the bed. She began to examine her.

"She's got a fever; we need to get cold compresses and cool her down immediately. I will get something to ease the pain for her. She needs lots of rest. If she makes it through the night, there is a good chance she might be alright. Only time will tell." she told him.

While the queen's ladies and the physician worked through the night to get her temperature down and to relieve her from pain, a worried William waited down in the kitchen for any news of the queen's health.

When morning came, William went to check on Kristen. He entered the room and was shocked to find that Kristen was sitting up with a calm look. William sat down beside her and took her hand. "I thought I was going to lose you. The others didn't go through what you did." William told her. "I think it might have been where I have had it so long since I was a child," Kristen replied.

"Now we can grow old together and live a normal life," William told her. "Yes, I can't wait to be in the sunlight in my garden and maybe have some more children in the future," she replied with a smile on her face. "Now, if only there was a way to cure James. Everything would be perfect."
